Sometimes a customer comes along asking for something I just want to jump at and start working. Since I do my custom orders on a first come, first serve basis, I had to wait until this one was up on my list, so when time came I was just almost literally rubbing my hands with delight.
Horses are indeed beauty impersonated. This girl was no exception, and you can tell she was much loved. Having lost her battle to cancer not long ago, I felt the added pressure of having to do her poise and grace justice. I hope I did, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Her colour was achieved by blending three colours, using merino wool and alpaca. Alpaca doesn’t needle felt easily and it took longer for her body to be completed because of this, but there was a depth to her that one couldn’t get with just one colour, and the alpaca did add extra shine. Her mane and tail are pure dark brown alpaca.
All in all, she was a true delight to make and I hope her human will be really happy with her when she arrives in the US.
